In June 2010 I began my program – The Journey-adifferentkindofstorybook. I write my own stories and for the first ten years I told my stories to inmates in our local county detention center, a neighboring county detention center and our local county drug court program as a group leader.
I write stories about real life. For the past four years I have read my stories to five elementary schools here in Lexington, KY. I have written eleven stories for my kids. I have twelve questions at the end of each story and I’m always amazed at how many of my kids get the answers right. They’re getting the messages. My stories are about HOPE, ENCOURAGEMENT, being KIND and being GOOD KIDS. I also want to be an alternative the mess that they are being bombarded with DAILY!
Every year my program has grown. In May 2023, I applied to register my program with The United States Patent and Trademark office. It took a while, but in May 2024, I received my certificate of registration. As the official owner of my program; I can accelerate my plans and reach more children and that’s what I intend to do – going forward in 2024 – and beyond.
My journey has been quite an adventure. I’m going to stay with our youth – OUR FUTURE. I hope to spend many more years with our children by PLANTING GOOD SEEDS and POURING goodness into them.
