~~45 years ago, today, I boarded a train from Boston to Fort Dix, New Jersey. I was drafted prior to the draft being abolished. I had guys from Pennsylvania, New York, Maryland and other states from the Northeast in my barracks. I was chosen to be our squad leader. Needless to say, we weren’t very happy sitting in our new home.

Dedication - October 20, 2013

~~I have been blessed in SO many ways along my journey. As we all have, I’ve had my share of ups and downs. God has blessed me with this ministry and through it I have learned the value of “glancing” in the rear view mirror of life, but focusing and dreaming out ahead through the windshield of life.
 Perhaps the greatest blessing that He has ever given me is my mom. She NEVER turned her back on me. Her health had taken a turn and I had the privilege of being able to care for her. Ten, fifteen, twenty years ago, I was caught up in the grip of addiction, BUT GOD delivered me from my dark room and I am able, not only to be found, but able to take care of my mom when she needed me.

~~~~I am Blessed!!   October 17, 2017
 I have been watching a documentary about the Vietnam War for several weeks. I was drafted in 1972, but was discharged before I had to go the “The Nam”. I thank God, I didn’t have to go and my heart aches for the men, women and their love ones who paid the ultimate price, or who were wounded!
I was compelled to write this post! I don’t take my blessings for granted.
NEVER GIVE UP!
Love & Peace
~~Yesterday I had my one-year checkup at the VA to check on my condition concerning if the cancer had returned. I have had 3 checkups since the operation and had great news each time. Well, I got the call this morning and the results continue to be GREAT!! NO CANCER. I am truly grateful.
We still have much to do and I believe that we are going to get them done. My friend and web-guy, Alan Dix is working on some improvements to our web site, so STAY TUNED.
Thank you for your support.
NEVER GIVE UP!
~~Over the past few weeks, adifferentkindofstorybook.com has been blessed with 4 very learning and growing opportunities. Each event had its own lessons to be learned. As I look into my rear-view mirror, I see several areas where I have grown AND several that I still need to work on. I believe that ANY day I can learn something new is a good day, so not having all the answers doesn’t discourage me. No, it challenges me!
~~Earlier today four of our church brothers got together to do some clean up around our church. This coming weekend is the Roots and Heritage Festival here in Lexington. The festivities passes by our church, so we will have a display set up for the community to come and visit.
The three men and I are over fifty years old, so we were working hard getting the job done. Slow and steady! The emphasis on SLOW!!!(smile) We got it done though!
~~I had a really great time at this event. I’m so glad I went. I had a good time hanging out with my friend, Dr. Baute and his son David. I met a lot of wonderful people and I do believe that we planted many good seeds towards the future. Something in my spirit tells me that we might have even bridged a few gaps, and to think I almost didn’t go! I’m an optimist, but I’m also a realist, but that’s another story.
